Description

Sooo, I don't even....seriously.
I was watching X-Men: The Last Stand for Logan scenes....then SUDDENLY I FORGOT HOW GODDAMN SEXY KELSEY GRAMMER'S BEAST IS. And now...I'm head-over-heels for Hank....fack.
I mean, when I was little I loved him, always thought he was awesome and sexy. But Kelsey just...UNF. So yes, Rowan is the girl :icontrainscribbler: and I created for Hank. Hope you all enjoy her.:aww:

Rowan is a sweet, and very shy young woman. Her mother was not a fit a parent, and gave her up for adoption at the age of 4. She never knew her father, and went from foster home to foster home.
Rowan's mutant power didn't manifest until she was 13. It only happened when she felt threatened or severely stressed. Her skin turns into large, scale-like plates, and is hard as bone and ivory in color. A knobby spine protrudes from her back, and her hair falls out. When she feels safe again, her skin softens and the plates retract, her hair growing back to shoulder-length.
The transformation was very painful in her early years, then became a dull pain for her. The first time it happened was one night at the foster home she was at presently. She couldn't sleep, so she went out into the backyard to swing. She started thinking about what the other children had told her about these foster parents, how if you did not obey and do everything just right, you would be put back into the system. Rowan began to let her mind race, her worst fears consuming her thoughts, her fears of moving again, of not pleasing these parents, of never finding a home. She couldn't breathe, and suddenly felt an intense pain, a burning under her skin. That was when she transformed for the first time. She saw her reflection in a bird bath that was on the porch, under the porch light, and thought herself hideous. Whenever Rowan felt herself becoming stressed, she would try to steal away, and begin the painful transformation alone. She was terrified of anyone knowing that she was a mutant, and became distant and secluded. Rowan loved to paint and she let her painting be her only comfort and didn't have close friends. She found a good foster home at the age of 15, with Mr. and Mrs. Regan. This couple was very kind and loving to her, and told her that she was welcome to stay with them past the age of 18 if she needed to, until she could find her own place to live. She had people that cared deeply for her there, and some of the foster children from Mr. and Mrs. Regan's home she loved and spent a great deal of her time with. But she remained shy and sweet, wearing a mask of happiness.
Rowan stayed with Mr. and Mrs. Regan past her 18th birthday, going to a community college for a Fine Arts degree. She was encouraged by her foster parents to pursue painting into college. Rowan did so, but when her professor’s continued to change the standards upon what was acceptable and passing work, she became disheartened, not feeling good enough to be a professional artist. After finishing her 4 year Associate’s degree, she didn’t pursue painting as a profession. Instead, she kept it as a hobby and after completing college at age 24, she felt she needed to move out of the foster home and try to make it on her own. She found a full time office job, and a room mate to share a small apartment with, but the apartment was cheap and in a bad part of Boston.
One night, she was walking to her apartment late at night, after picking up some groceries. She walked by an alley, and was jumped by a mugger. She screamed and fought, but the man was strong and pinned her against the wall, and intended much more harm than a mugging. Rowan transformed with a desperate scream, and kicked the man in the shin, bringing him down in a heap.
Xavier felt Rowan through Cerebro, her panic and rage and her transformation made her visible. He sent Storm, Piotr(Colossus), and Kitty Pride to her aid. They arrived, and they find Rowan on her knees, crying hysterically. The man is trying to get up, but Piotr knocks him out cold. Rowan is picked up by Piotr, telling her that everything will be alright now.
“You and I are alike, I see,” he says kindly, as he carries her to the jet.
Rowan looks up to him in confusion and still a bit of shock.
“We both have skin that can protect us...and others,” Piotr says, smiling.

Rowan is taken to the school that night, and Piotr shows her to a room that she can stay in for the night. Rowan is so overwhelmed by all that has happened, she passes out until morning.
When she awakes the next morning, Kitty Pride greets her, and asks if she'd like to meet Professor Xavier and the others. Rowan meets the Professor, Scott, Storm, Bobby, and Rogue. Xavier offers Rowan a home at the school, explaining to her that it's a safe haven for mutants, a place she can learn her 'gift' and use it to help others.
Rowan has always hated her 'gift', and she tells them so. But at the same time, since she cannot get rid of it, the thought of trying to use it for helping others, makes her feel she might be worth something after all. She agrees to stay at the school, and asks to contact Mr. and Mrs. Regan, to tell them she has returned to college, so they don't worry.
The next morning, Rowan enters the library, and sees Hank on a couch, reading quietly.
Rowan finds him very handsome right off the bat, and a small, shy smile comes to her lips, as she walks slowly in direction. Hank notices her coming up to him, and turns and smiles at her kindly.
“Well, good morning!” he greets her kindly.
Rowan's smile grows, seeing his handsome smile.
“G-good morning, S-sir,” she replied quietly, tucking her red locks behind her ear shyly.
Hank chuckles warmly as he makes his way over to her, shaking his head slightly.
“Oh goodness no. There is no need for 'Sir', my dear. I'm Dr. Hank McCoy,” and he extends his hand to her.
Rowan takes his hand timidly, and immediately feels how warm it is.
“I'm Rowan,” she says softly, and shakes his hand.
Hank nods and grins brighter, seeing how beautiful her eyes and smile are, and how she's not disgusted in any way by his appearance.
“An absolute pleasure to meet you, miss Rowan,” he replies kindly.
Hank then asks her if she came in recently, and Rowan tells him what happened, and how Xavier will help her with her gift.
Hank tells her how wonderful that is, and asks her if she has been shown the school. Rowan says she hasn't seen all of it, because she came in so late last night. Hank tells her he would be delighted to show her around, and they walk the grounds.
Rowan asks if he is one of the teachers, and Hank says that he is some times. He explains that he is the Secretary of Mutant Affairs for the President of the United States. Rowan looks to him astonished for a second, and says that's wonderful, praising him for having such a position. Though she expresses her concern, saying that it must be very hard some days, very stressful.
Hank says it can be, and tells her that is the reason he returns to the school, to teach the students, and read in the library. He tells her of her love of books, and she asks about his doctorate. Hank tells her about his doctorates and such, and he asks her about herself. Rowan shyly says she's a rather boring person, and Hank replies, “I find that extremely hard to believe. Since I have been enjoying your company from the moment we met.”
They spend the rest of the afternoon together, and end the tour in the library. Rowan comments on how she always wanted to spend hours in a library like this one, but she never seemed to have time. Hank invites her to spend the rest of the day there with him, and she accepts happily. She notices some of Shakespeare's plays on the shelf, and comments about how she always wished to read more of Shakespeare's plays and sonnets. She tells Hank that her school only covered Julius Caesar and Hamlet, and how she never had anyone to share Shakespeare with. Hank sees the sadness and loneliness in her eyes then, and smiles warmly.
'Well, that changes today,” he states cheerfully. “Miss Rowan, would you like to have readings of his plays with me every day that I am here? We shall call them, 'Shakespeare Sessions.'” he smiles.
Rowan looks to Hank in surprise at first, surprised that he is willing to do that with her, having just met. She asks if he's sure, and Hank heartedly confirms he is, saying he needs to brush up on his Shakespeare anyway. He asks which play she'd like to start with, and she picks A Midsummer Night's Dream. Hank suggests they start right then, and Rowan happily agrees. Hank suggests he reads the male parts, and that Rowan read the women's parts. They read aloud, and Hank encourages Rowan to act out the lines, as he does. They spend the evening there, together.
That night, Hank tells Rowan that he will be gone for a few days, returning to his work at the White House. Rowan tries to hide her sadness, but Hank sees it, and is sad himself to leave her so soon. He reaches out and touches her hand, and squeezes it.
“I will return before you know it, my dear,” he says kindly, his smile soft.
Rowan nods and smiles sweetly.
“Yes of course,” she replies. “And I am so thankful to have met you, Hank. And to call you friend.”
“Likewise, my dear,” Hank replies happily.
Rowan spends the days that Hank is gone with Piotr mostly. But sometimes Storm or Kitty would keep her company. When Kurt was there, she would enjoy his company too, and she met with Xavier and Storm to train her in her powers. When Hank would return, they would spend as much of the day as possible reading Shakespeare plays. One day, Hank asks her if she was ever told what her name means. Rowan says she doesn't, and asks him if he knows. Hank happily tells her that the rowan tree is a beautiful and strong tree, which has bright red berries. He also tells her of the believed magical power the rowan tree has, and how it's favored for wands because it is more protective than any other wood. Hank had been informed of Rowan's 'gift' from Xavier, and then said that like the protective quality of the Rowan tree, Rowan's 'gift' gives her the ability to protect others. Hank smiles kindly at her then, and softly adds that the rowan tree is beautiful, just as her mutant form is.
Rowan looks to Hank in surprise for a moment, unsure how to react to such encouragement. But she smiles finally, shyly, and thanking him for such kind words. The
“Shakespeare Sessions” with Hank become Rowan's favorite past time, even more than painting.
She enjoyed Hank's company the most out of all her new friends. His joyful and deep laughter made her giggle; his handsome and kind smile made her heart flutter, and his baritone voice was so lovely to her ears. But most of all, he WANTED to spend time with her, and that meant the world to her. Not only did they enjoy Shakespeare together, but Hank also assigned her novels she had not read before to read while he was away, so they could discuss the book on his return. Hank began to cherish the time he had with Rowan, he desire to learn from him and absorb all she could delighted him. Her bright and beautiful smile and grey eyes made him smile brighter. Her melodic giggle made him want to chuckle more, and her sweet voice was like music to him. Hank began to think of Rowan often at work, and began to wonder if he felt more for her than simply a deep friendship. Rowan developed feelings for Hank very early on, a school girl's crush at first. One day, they were spending an evening in the library, and Rowan mentions that she would love to paint. Hank inquires about if she went to college for that, and she says yes, and then tells him the story of why she didn't pursue it.
"I guess I'm a coward. I just, didn't feel I was good enough at it." She says sadly.
"I think everyone has been a coward at some point in their life," Hank replies sweetly. "I for one certainly have been. I was...a coward to not accept who I was..."
Hank's gaze is off into the distance now, and he seems sad. Rowan asks him what he means, and Hank tells her how he tried to stop his mutation. (Following the first class lore), and that it only aggravated it and made his mutation its full form.
"I was afraid to be...who I really was."
Rowan is quiet for a moment. But then she shook her head and softly says.
"I don't think there's anything wrong with how you look, Hank,” she says shyly, almost a whisper.
Hank looks up to her in slight surprise, and Rowan blushes and looks away. But Hank smiles softly then.
"Well, thank you, Miss Rowan." He says kindly.
Rowan raises her eyes, and seeing Hank smiling, she smiles sweetly.
"You're...very welcome, Hank."
A few days pass, and Xavier feels that Rowan is ready to try and transform at will. He has Storm take Rowan to a room set up for such a thing, and Rowan nervously gets set up. She's in the room with Storm, preparing herself and thinking she can do it. Then, to her horror, Hank comes in, smiling. She asks why he's there, and Hank explains that he needs to monitor her vital signs while she forces the transformation.  He starts hooking her up to the machine, and it's clear that Rowan is now more nervous to have Hank there. She didn’t want him to see her in her form...since she likes him already. But he keeps smiling at her and tells her to just ignore him and focus on Storm's instructions.
They begin, Storm instructs Rowan to let herself think of something that panics her, triggering the effect, and as she does that, to convert that panic into incentive to protect. Rowan begins the exercise, she starts to change. Storm keeps encouraging her; Hank is quiet for a time, watching the monitors. But when he sees how hard this is for her, he starts encouraging too, very softly. Storm then takes the initiative and does what I had suggested Xavier did. She tells Rowan to think of who she would like to protect, who she cares about enough to defend.
"Someone you want to defend, baby. Someone you love."
At the moment she says that, Rowan's gaze meets Hank's. Hank locks his eyes with hers, and he smiles that gentle smile to her, not sure what else to do. With a final painful shout, Rowan changes, and her full form is exposed. Storm and Hank encourage her and tell her she did wonderfully. But Rowan is still crying, and she sobs softly for neither of them to look at her. Hank shakes his head and steps up to her. "Rowan..." he says softly.
"Please...I'm hideous..." she replies in a whimper.
Hank shakes his head again, and takes her face in his hands and lifts it to his.
"You are the rowan tree....beautiful and strong."
Rowan stops sobbing, as if she started to believe him. She smiles a tiny smile at him, sniffling.
I see Hank busying himself in the lab looking at the data for Rowan's transformation. Storm comes in, and Hank greets her, saying "Rowan did very well I think!" And Storm agrees.
"She did better because you were here," Storm remarked, staring at him with a smile in her eyes.
Hank looks at her with a confused expression.
"I'm not sure what you mean, Ororo," he replies, clearing his throat. Storm comes up to him then quietly, and says softly. "She was able to transform because of you, Hank,” she nearly whispered.
Hank doesn't look up to her, he shakes his head slowly.
"Ororo," Hank sighed. "That is not"-"Hank don't." Storm interrupts softly.
"Don't sell yourself short like this." She says softly.
Hank chuckles mockingly.
"Ororo. I am tired. I am tired of thinking a woman is interested...and then being refused. Followed by the woman's disgust." Hank replies, nearly throwing his pen.
Storm is quiet for a moment, seeing the pain in Hank's eyes, then she whispers.
"Rowan is different, Hank...completely different. "
"How?" Hank scoffs.
"She sees you as you truly are and cares for you. I saw how she looked at you when I said to envision someone she loved. She looked DIRECTLY at you and ONLY at you! Hank....she's different." Storm's voice fades off, and it appears tears might be in her eyes.
Hank sighs heavily, his eyes to the ground.
"She is so lovely, Ororo..." he nearly whispers. "I...I enjoy her company and friendship immensely...her smile...warms my heart like no one ever has..."
Storm puts a hand on his shoulder gently.
"And her eyes shine when you smile at her," she whispers, a smile on her lips. "What you have to realize, Hank, is if you close yourself off to this, not only are you selling yourself short, you're doing the same for Rowan too.."
Hank looks up to Storm then, realizing she is right, and he nods to her.
“You're right, Ororo,” he said finally. “You’re right.”
In the weeks that follow, the mutant cure is announced, and Rowan wants to take it. Even with the encouragement of Storm, Hank, and the others, she still feels she will never be the defender either they or she wants to be. One night, she attempts to sneak out, passing the library doors. Hank just happens to be up, and with his animal-like hearing, hears her footsteps, and sees her headed towards the door. He calls quietly out to her, great worry in his eyes, as he asks her where she's going at such a late hour. Rowan stops and turns to face him, but she can't look at him when she says "to get...the cure..."
Hank can hardly believe his ears and his eyes grow so sad suddenly, as he quickly walks up to her.
"The cure?! W-why?" He whispers frantically.
Rowan starts sobbing quietly.
"I don't want to be this way, I can't. ..I'm not strong enough...brave enough...like you.." she keeps her eyes down, but steadily begins to sob harder, her shoulders heaving. Hank forgets himself and puts his hands on her shoulders and starts shushing her softly.
"I'm ugly, useless...my 'gift' is a curse. .."
"N-no... miss Rowan no," Hank begins to whisper gently.
"I only burden you all with my inability to change quickly, inability to be...anything other than a handicap to you"-"No!" Hank whispers more frantically, holding her shoulders more tightly, but still gently.
"Please, Henry...please don't try and make me feel better I..." she still is sobbing, unable to look him in the eyes. "Please I can't stay here...I have to go..."
"No, Miss Rowan you cannot leave..." Hank tries to remain calm, but there's a trembling in his voice.
"I must...Henry I"-"You cannot because I...." Hank's voice drops and he looks away from her, as if struggling with something. He releases her shoulders, and lays his arms at his sides.
Rowan searches his eyes, wondering what on earth is wrong.
"Henry...?" She whispers
Henry looks up to her slowly, he sees the pain in her eyes.
"You cannot go...you are...not a burden. Miss Rowan. ..you never have been. ."
"But all I do is FAIL! " Rowan sobs. "I can't learn fast enough! I can't...I'm just..." Rowan shakes her head quickly. "Please just let me go.." she whimpers, and turns away from Hank to walk to the door.
Hank lets her turn, unable to speak even though he desperately needs to.
"You mustn't go, Miss Rowan...please! " he calls out, his voice shaky.
Rowan is still walking towards the door, shaking her head, her heart breaking with every step.
"I have to Henry, please! "
"But I LOVE YOU!" Hank cries out, his voice cracking.
Rowan freezes. She looks back to him, her eyes full of disbelief, tears streaming down her flushed cheeks still.
Hank stands there, breathless, his heart pounding out of his chest, their eyes locked.
"I do love nothing in the world so well as you. .."he says softly, quoting Benedict. "Is not that strange?" A small, smile curling his lips, surrendering to whatever happens next, knowing that Rowan would know which play he quoted, and what Beatrice's reply was.
Rowan lets her bag fall out of her hand, she starts to breathe heavily, overcome with joy to hear his words. She begins to cry again, but now there is a smile breaking, and she sobs out "I love you with so much of my heart that none is left to protest!"
And she runs to him, sobbing with joy. Hank brings her up into his great arms and holds her as tight as he can without hurting her, as he tears up too, whispering her name lovingly. He releases her after a moment, and their eyes lock once more. Hank strokes Rowan's face tenderly, brushing away the tears from her eyes, and kisses her gently. After a moment more, he carries her to his room, and they spend the night simply holding each other, kissing, and letting themselves feel the love and joy they have both longed for so long.
The weeks that follow are blissful. One night, Hank and Rowan are lying in bed, and Hank tells Rowan that he has to leave for the White House in the morning. Rowan tries to hide her sadness by smiling at him sweetly, but Hank can see the sorrow in her eyes. He kisses her forehead and says that before he has to go, he has something he needs to give her. He gets out of bed and goes to the other room for a moment, then quickly returns with a little black box. He crawls back into bed, and opens the box for Rowan to see. The content is a silver tree pendant necklace. Rowan gasps out in delight as he takes it out and shows it to her in more detail.
“This is a Yggdrasil pendant, sweet love,” he says softly smiling. “This is the ‘World’s Tree’. It is an immense tree that is central in Norse cosmology and mythology, the connection to which the nine worlds exist. It is beautiful and strong, just as you are. It gives and sustains life, just as you have given life to my old and broken heart,” he says quietly, as tears form in his eyes. “I give this to you as a reminder and as a token of my love for you, of your beauty and ability to protect others. And, so that a part of me will always be with you, even when I must be away from you.”
Rowan beams up at Hank, gasping in delight and crying softly.
“Oh, my beloved,” she whispers happily. “Thank you…it is the most beautiful necklace I have ever seen.”
And from then on, Rowan kept the pendant on, and held it in her hand tight when Hank was away.
When Professor Xavier is killed by the Phoenix, Rowan weeps in Hank's embrace, and although the pain of Xavier's loss was immense, they had each other to ease the pain a little. Hank remained at the school after that, knowing he belonged there more than he ever did at the White House.
When Magneto announces his plan to attack Alcatraz, and when Logan discovers when Magneto will attack, Hank must go and fight. Rowan is distraught, but she knows that Hank must help the X-Men, and all of mankind. Hank promises he will return, telling her he cannot die now, not now that he has found her, for his life is now complete. They embrace, and he gives her a passionate kiss goodbye, and leaves with Logan and the others. Rowan tries to keep busy, and she spends the night with the younger students, being a comfort to them and in turn, to herself. One of the young girls notices that Rowan is fiddling with the tree pendant Hank gave her incessantly, and the young girl tells Rowan not to worry, because Hank will return, because they love each other and nothing will separate them. Rowan smiles to the girl and holds her close, tears forming in her eyes.
Finally, Rowan can hear the sound of the X-Jet returning, with the children exclaiming in joy that the team has returned. Rowan runs out to see the jet land, and her heart stops and she waits to see if Hank returned with the others. When she sees him come out, she utters a cry of relief and joy, nearly falling to her knees. Hank sees her then, and he beams at her, running to her. Rowan runs as best she can to meet him, and he catches her up and twirls her around in joy. Through tears they kiss and laugh with happiness, and Hank carries Rowan inside and to his room. As Rowan helps Hank get cleaned up, taking off his vest, she becomes bold, and asks Hank if he would have her that night. Hank tenderly strokes her cheek, his eyes loving.
“I cannot deny that I desire you, Rowan. I would know every sublime inch of you, with your consent. I just would not wish you to have any regrets. Yours is a gift you can only bestow once…” he whispers, gently kissing her forehead.
Rowan takes the hand that is held to her cheek into her own, and squeezes it gently.
“Henry…” she breathes, her soft and melodic voice laced with adoration. “I have never loved anyone so much as I do you.” she began to smile tenderly at him, bringing her own hand to his cheek.
“If there was ever a man whom I wished to give myself to completely….it is you.” She whispers the last word against his lips.
Henry smiles a warm and joyful smile, before he presses his lips firmly to hers, guiding her to the bed.
Rowan continued to train and improve upon her transformation, and it hurts less and less each time she does it. Her hair can’t grow past her shoulders though, since it falls out every time she changes.

Hank calls Rowan, “Sweet love,” taken from Romeo and Juliet. Rowan always calls him Henry and never refers to him as ‘Beast.’
